Description

The Rosa Portugal is a pink colored marble, with a rose pink type of color tone, medium grain structure and fairly uniform background. It may present some pink color tone variation, as well as darker colored vein. This is the main reference pink marble from Portugal and one of the few in the world.

There are numerous variations of the Rosa Portugal available in the market, ranging from lower grades to higher grades. Overall, the Rosa Portugal marble could be classified based on:
color: where it may present a light pink color, in contrast with other variations that may present a dark / salmon-like color or different tones of pink;
veins: some selections tend to have little to no darker veins, while other selections will present stronger darker colored veins;
– pattern: the type of pattern varies on each selection.

Extraction area

The Rosa Portugal marble is explored around the area between the cities of Estremoz and Vila Vicosa, which are located on the Southern part of Portugal, about 180km East of Lisbon and roughly 60km West of the border with Spain.

This area is located in the Alentejo region and considered the main extraction area for Portuguese marble, with long history of extraction and production of this type of natural stone.
